PRELUDE                        “He Leadeth Me: O Blessed Thought!”                arr. Dale Wood

WELCOME AND ANNOUNCING THE DAY

A tended nursery is available during Sunday worship services.

It is located downstairs before you enter Fellowship Hall.

CONFESSION AND FORGIVENESS (stand)

P:  Blessed be the † holy Trinity, the one who fashions us, the one who heals us, the one who reforms us again and again.

C:  Amen.

P:  Let us confess our sin, calling for God’s transforming power.

Silence for reflection and self-examination.

P:  Source of all life,

C:  we confess that we have not allowed your grace to set us free.  We fear that we are not good enough.  We hear your word of love freely given to us, yet we expect others to earn it.  We turn the church inward, rather than moving it outward. Forgive us. Stir us.  Reform us to be a church powered by love, willing to speak for what is right, act for what is just, and seek the healing of your whole creation.  Amen.

P:  God hears our cry and sends the Spirit to change us and to empower our lives in the world.  Our sins are forgiven, † God’s love is unconditional, and we are raised up as God’s people who will always be made new, in the name of Jesus Christ. C:  Amen.

AN ORDER FOR THE DISPOSAL OF DETERIORATING BIBLES

P: Let us pray:

C: We give thanks to you, O Lord of Knowledge and Truth, that you have provided for us the written word for our guidance and growth. While words written on paper may decay, we ask that the Word made flesh, our Lord Jesus Christ, may always live in our hearts and minds. And may we seek guidance and knowledge in the wonderful array of media that is provided for us in today’s world. In the name of the Living Word, Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen!

P: We remember now the person(s) from whom these Bibles have come.

The congregation is invited to name the givers silently.

P: In Romans 10:17 Paul writes: “Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God.” The pages once read, now brittle and yellowing, are now returned for renewal. May they make new paper on which truth, beauty, and joy may be known.

C: Amen.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.  Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.  Give us this day our daily bread.  And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.  And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.  For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory for ever and ever.  Amen.
