GATHERING                                                                                                                                     Cody Brown

L:         Jesus Christ, we greet you! Your hands still have holes in them, your feet are wet from the dew; and with the memory of our names undimmed by three days of death you meet us, risen from the grave. We fail to understand how; we puzzle at the reason why. But you have come: not to answer our questions, but to show us your face.

C:         You are alive and the world can rejoice again. Hallelujah! Amen!

CONFESSION & FORGIVENESS (stand)

L:         Blessed be the Holy Trinity, one God, who calls us beloved children, who gathers us into one flock, who guides us into all truth.

C:         Amen!

L:         Let us confess our sins, trusting that God will forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Silence is kept for reflection

            Faithful and just God,

C:         we confess that we are captive to doubt and fear, bound by the way that leads to death. We have not loved our sisters and brothers as you have first loved us. Forgive us, God of mercy. Let your Holy Spirit work in us to change our lives and make us new, that we may know the abundant life given in Jesus Christ, our risen Lord. Amen!

L:         In this is love, not that we loved God but that God loved us and sent his Son to forgive us our sins. In the name of + Jesus Christ, I announce to you that our sins are forgiven. Let the perfect love of God cast out fear, fill us with joy, and inspire us to live for others.

C:         Amen!

GOSPEL                                                                                                                                          Luke 24: 1–12

On the first day of week, at early dawn, [the women] came to the tomb, taking the spices that they had prepared. They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they went in, they did not find the body. While they were perplexed about this, suddenly two men in dazzling clothes stood beside them. The women were terrified and bowed their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here, but has risen. Remember how he told you, while he was still in Galilee, that the Son of Man must be handed over to sinners, and crucified, and on the third day rise again.” Then they remembered his words, and returning from the tomb, they told all this to the eleven and to all the rest. Now it was Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and the other women with them who told this to the apostles. But these words seemed to them an idle tale, and they did not believe them. But Peter got up and ran to the tomb; stopping and looking in; he saw the linen cloths by themselves; then he went home, amazed at what had happened.
